A beauty shot of the bed in close up. The bed measured 15 feet long and 100 inches wide. It adds 3,500 pounds to the rear. With the left over steel from the project and carries household stuff in the storage boxes. I total added roughly 5,000 pounds. Now the truck weight 20,000 pounds with 12,000 at the rear and 8,000 at the front. My trailer pin weight is 3,000 pounds.
The extra weight has helped the stability on bob tail and towing driving. The downside is the mile per gallon of has dropped to 9 from 11 mpg.
We like the load capacity of a long bed and the option to extend the sleeper or build huge storage box in our future project. We kept the rear tandem for the differential, the looks and the original design. I am in the Dieseldan's camp.
